Close to 1 million youngsters turn 18 every month, of whom an overwhelming 50% do not complete high school. Over time, this has resulted in millions of young adults who can neither afford higher education nor secure decent employment.
What then happens to these young minds? Some indulge in delinquent behaviour, while others are forced to work in exploitative conditions. Underage girls are married off and become pregnant. And a staggering 55,000 youth give into substance addiction every day. All this, when roughly 1,17,000 new jobs are created every single quarter, and an acute shortage of skills has been reported across all sectors to fulfil these jobs.
This is where we come in. Antarang Foundation envisions a world where every young person is passionately, productively and positively engaged in a career of their choice. Through two career focused programs, CareerAware and CareeReady, the foundation works to bridge the Employability gap that exists amongst disadvantaged youth. The programs deliver career guidance, develop core employability skills, and finally link students with career opportunities.

We have reached 8400+ young adults from 14-25 years of age through our CareeReady and CareerAware programs, of which more than 2500 students are trained in employability skills and linked to career opportunities. Painstakingly created 27 career service centers and partnered with more than 150 corporate organisations.

Ajay has over 24 years corporate experience working with Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Shopper’s Stop, and HDFC Bank. Over the last 7 years he has, in partnership with the Hansa group, set up a unique customer marketing company called Hansa Cequity. Ajay is the Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer of Hansa Cequity. And under his guidance the team has built up a strong profitable business based on Analytics & CRM.
Alka is a corporate lawyer and specialises in mergers & acquisitions. In her 20-year career, Alka has worked on several complex cross-border M&A transactions. Today she is a partner at AZB & Partners – a prominent law firm in India. Alka completed her Bachelor of Law from the University of Delhi in 1995. She also holds a Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and a Bachelor in Economics from Hindu College, University of Delhi.
Archana Chandra is a Board Member at the Antarang Foundation, and the Honorary Administrative Director of the Jai Vakeel Foundation and Research Centre. She is a keen philanthropist.
Jessy is a member of the Antarang Foundation board. With a specialisation in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, she has extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults. With her charming and cheerful spirit Jessy is our very own ray of sunshine! In her leisure time she enjoys theatre and meeting new people.
Lopa has 15 years experience in the field of education, and holds a postgraduate degree in Nutrition. She is also the founder of Ugam, an organisation working for supplementary education to primary school students in Jharkhand, India.
As Chief Culture Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at Tata Power, Vivek Talwar drives a multitude of activities including business excellence, customer affection and CSR, and has played a role in the organisational transformation of both Tata Chemicals and Tata Power. Incidentally, Vivek is an Architect by professional qualification.
Vivek has trekked extensively in the Himalayas and the Canadian Rockies, and has also traveled to some of the remotest wilderness areas of the world. Vivek is also a wildlife and nature photographer.

Our founder Priya, an SP Jain Institute of Management and Research alumni, carries a heart full of love for her community. She founded Antarang in 2013, and has nurtured it into the blossoming organisation it is today. An Ashoka Fellow and Dasra Social Impact Leadership fellow, Priya brings 25 years of corporate and social welfare experience to our team. In her spare time Priya enjoys photography and reading. Priya, with her kind yet firm attitude, is a driving force for the entire team.
Rita is Antarang’s Director of Finance and External Relations. She has some heavy-duty finance experience having previously worked with global investment banks. Intelligent and straightforward, Rita is a force to be reckoned with. The lighter side of Rita enjoys travelling and reading.
Anjali conducts our ‘Train the Trainer’ programs and is responsible for the efficient functioning of our trainers. Additionally, she also works in content development. With her level headed and decisive composure, Anjali is a pillar of strength for our mentors. Anjali loves travelling and experimenting with world cuisines.
Shubhangi, our Finance Manager, brings her extensive experience of the corporate finance world to Antarang. Bright, friendly and hardworking, Shubhangi enjoys playing chess and reading short stories.
Sherry is the Lead for both our CareeReady and CareerAware programs as well as Operations. She also oversees HR, Administration and Communication. Her vibrant spirit and charm lights up even the dullest of days. Sherry is an avid reader and enjoys cooking.
Sangeeta leads our alumni engagement efforts, and is tasked with the critical job of keeping all alumni members connected with Antarang by organising events and meets. She is also part of the Training the Trainer team. Her colleagues love Sangeeta for her enthusiastic and vibrant spirit. Sangeeta’s many hobbies include traveling and engaging with young people.
Sweta is a Placements Manager at Antarang Foundation. With a background in social work, she is involved in our Placements, Impact and Communications functions. Pleasant and kind Sweta, has a love for reading and outings.
Avinash Biramne is our Associate-Administration. He has extensive experience of administrative processes as well as accounts, and implements this knowledge into Antarang’s daily activities ensuring they proceed smoothly to the very best of his ability.
Our community engagement officer, Vaibhav, is involved in getting students into the classrooms. His charming and positive attitude makes him a likeable personality. In his spare time Vaibhav takes pleasure in cooking, working out at the gym and travelling.
Ashvini comes to Antarang with a background in Credit Analysis and Application Development. She has previously worked at CARE Ratings and Tata Consultancy Services. Ashvini is a certified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelors in Commerce from the R.A. Podar College, Mumbai.
A Senior Associate in our Placements division, Shweta has a background in operations and customer service in the Finance industry. She has close to 20 years of professional experience. Shweta is passionate about music and travelling.
Zehra is an Associate for our Mentor Program. Fun loving and bright, she is very dedicated towards her work. In her free time, Zehra likes to travel, read and pen a few words of her own now and then.
Harshad is an Associate in the Alumni Engagement team at Antarang. He has conducted seminars in over 100 schools, colleges and private organisations for Effective Working English Skills and Employability skills. He is a BODHIH certified soft skills and behaviour skills trainer, and is currently developing soft-skills training materials on self improvement, time management, team building, and life skills. Harshad has counselled many individuals and helped them find their career paths. His core interests are facilitating and learning multiple skills. He also likes to socialise, develop content on self-help, enjoys film making and storytelling.
Insiyah is a Manager for our CareerAware program. She is most excited by effective social change. In her spare time Insiyah pursues contemporary dance, is a trained paragliding pilot, runs marathons and is an avid traveller.
Nasir Khan has over a decade of experience in the hospitality and development sectors with Barista Lavazza and the Akanksha Foundation. He always strives to give his best, has a knack for administrative tasks and is passionate about cricket.
Aparna has over 15 years experience in brand management and business consulting. An alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, she obtained her Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Delhi University. Spanning India and the UK, Aparna’s career includes stints at Procter and Gamble, the WPP group and Ascension Consulting. At Antarang, Aparna leads our Corporate Engagement division.
Vinti is a postgraduate in Human Resources and has also completed her Masters in Commerce. She has varied experience in recruitment, training, and leadership development with companies like Mahindra & Mahindra-FES and Larsen and Toubro. Prior to joining Antarang she volunteered with Teach For India. At Antarang, Vinti is our Manager (HR), and handles the Human Resources function.
Rishikesh Ghodeswar is currently pursuing his graduation from NSS college. He is an intern with the Community Engagement team at Antarang Foundation. He likes to play football and writes poems. His future aspiration is to start his own business.
Priyanka Nighot is an Antarang Alumni from the Ghatkopar West batch, and is pursuing her F.Y.B.com from Asmita College. She is also an Intern with our Alumni Engagement team. Confident, extrovert and punctual, Priyanka loves travelling and listening music.
An Associate in the Mentors of Mumbai program, Carmel has completed her Masters in Social Work from Nirmala Niketan College. In her free time, she loves listening to music and reading.
A graduate in Law from Nagpur university, Pratik also holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Nirmala Niketan college. At Antarang, he does invaluable work as an Associate in the CareerAware program. A movie buff and music lover, Pratik also likes to watch sports and read books.
Our Senior Associate of the CareeReady program, Nikhil has a degree in Civil engineering and also has been a Teach For India Fellow. He likes football, and is a Liverpool fan. In his spare time, Nikhil enjoys travelling and exploring new restaurants.

Chhavi is a Pune University topper with a specialisation in Human Resources. She has 3+ years of experience in Recruitment and Training. In her free time Chhavi enjoys reading, travelling and gardening.
Lateefa has done her B. Tech National diploma in nursery nurse from South Birmingham College. She has been running a successful nursery school for the last 17 years in United Kingdom. Lateefa has also done voluntary work with Easy Bachat.
Nardev holds a Masters degree in Commerce (Management) as well as Diplomas in both Automobile and Mechanical Designing. He has extensive experience in the IT, automobile, sales and construction sectors, and has worked for more than ten years now. In his free time Nardev loves to go for solo trips.
Tasneem connects spontaneously with students and understands them very well. She has previously worked as a teacher in an international school, tutored school students for close to 3 years and has also assisted differently-abled students write their examinations. Tasneem possesses excellent communication skills in English, Hindi and Gujarati, and has completed her graduation in Mass Media from Mumbai University. When working as a Manager with a wedding planner, Tasneem realised that she wanted to do something for the society at large and thus connected with the Antarang Foundation.
Foram is currently pursuing her Masters in English Literature from the University of Mumbai. She has previously worked with the Podar Education Network as a curriculum developer, and has also taught English. She loves reading, writing poetry, photography and travel.
Before joining Antarang, Ria used to be a freelance Research Writer with Case Studies London. She has also worked at organisations such as ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and Netbiz Pvt Ltd. Ria holds a Licentiate and Associateship Diploma from the Insurance Institute of India and a Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Mumbai.
Rukhsar is in his third year at the Wilson College (University of Mumbai), studying English, Philosophy and Psychology. When not busy with activities at Antarang or his college, Rukhsar indulges in outdoor activities and entertainment, his favourites being badminton, reading, cooking and trekking.
Ami joined Antarang as a trainer with a rich background in fashion design and career counseling. She is a graduate from Sydenham College, holds a Diploma in Textile Design from Rachna Sansad, and has also been certified in personal counseling by the Heart to Heart Institute. Ami speaks four languages and in her free time enjoys cooking, reading and dancing.
Drishti is a 4th year student at the Dr. D. Y. Patil College School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, pursuing a Bachelors in Biotechnology. Drishti has previously volunteered at the Akanksha Foundation, and was also a Content Writing Intern at Young India Creative Media. She enjoys reading, crafts and listening to music.
Karishma is a third year Computer Engineering student at the Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering. She also holds a diploma in Information Technology from Shah and Anchor. Karishma has a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence and Web Development, and loves travelling and automobiles.
Madhulika joins Antarang with expertise in sales, operations and human resources within the media industry. She has worked at media houses such as Star Network, Radio Mirchi, Big FM and Mahuaa Network. Additionally, Madhulika has experience in the Development Sector working with Care India and Vidya Sagar, and has been involved with YMCA Juhu and Sahaj Charitable Trust among others. Multi-talented Madhulika holds an MBA in Sales and Marketing from Kalyani University in Kolkata.
Mary has extensive experience in education and training. Prior to joining Antarang, she was a consultant at Bennett Coleman & Co. Mary also has experience in marketing and administration working for companies including Total Start, DSQ Software and Lakme. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Science from Calcutta University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Science and Sustainability from IGNOU, and a Certificate in the Robert Charkoff Model from Heart to Heart Counseling Centre in Mumbai.
Satish is a certified personal counselor and REBT therapist from the Heart to Heart Institute, Mumbai. He also holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from VJTI and a Diploma in Business Management from Welingkar Institute.
Shaeesta brings to Antarang her strong background in education. She served as the Head Teacher at the Manar Al-Huda Islamic English School (Sewri), and also privately tutored primary and secondary school students. Shaeesta holds a Masters in Management Studies from Visvevaraya Institute of Management Studies and Research.
A third year Computer Engineering student at the M.H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Shoaib also holds a CISCO Professional Certification in Routing and Switching. In his free time he likes to play soccer and cricket, and is passionate about fitness and nutrition.
Sukhwinder recently completed his Bachelors in Bio-Analytical Sciences from the G.N. Khalsa College, University of Mumbai. In his leisure, Sukhwinder enjoys writing and travelling.
Surbhi has just received her Masters degree in Psychology from the Abasaheb Garware College, Pune. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Guidance from SIES, Mumbai. Prior to Antarang, Surbhi interned at the Vruddhi Organisation and Chaitanya Institute for Mental Health. She is interested in music and sports.
Vrushali joins Antarang from Tata AIG, where she was employed as an Insurance Agent. In the past, she has also worked as a Junior Financial Analyst at ICICI Bank. Vrushali holds a Masters in Management Studies from Mumbai University, and a Bachelors in Banking and Finance from K.C. College, Mumbai. She enjoys travelling and exploring new places, photography and athletics.
The social sector in India is still in its infancy. For a young NGO like Antarang, it is imperative that we join hands with mature NGOs who are doing spectacular work in the social sector. The outcome? Together we can spearhead the movement towards a safe and productive environment for youth in India.
Aangan works to strengthen India’s child protection system so that even the most vulnerable child can have a safe childhood. They work with children trapped in dangerous situations such as child trafficking, hazardous work, early marriage, and abuse. Aangan’s efforts are focused towards both preventing child harm as well as rehabilitation and recovery of child survivors of serious harm.
The Akanksha Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides high quality education to children from low-income communities, enabling them to maximise their potential and transform their lives. Using a two-pronged approach, Akanksha initiates school reform through The School Project and provides supplemental education through the Akanksha centers.
CCDT has been actively associated with marginalised communities in the slums of Mumbai and its suburbs. Their effort has always been directed towards addressing the issue of deprivation and marginalisation of communities and children. Over the years, health and education have emerged as two major domains of CCDT’s interventions, with a special focus on family and children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Masoom is a not-for-profit organisation with a passion for establishing quality education in night schools in order to provide better career opportunities to their students. It is the first organisation in Maharashtra to run a comprehensive “School Transformation Programme” for night school education. Masoom initially began with 2 night schools in the first year, and gradually increased its spread to 47 schools and 3500 students in 2015. Masoom plans to reach 210 night schools by 2020, touching the lives of 20,000 students in Maharashtra.
MelJol was initiated as a field action project of Family and Child Welfare, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai) in December 1991. Rooted firmly in the belief that children have rights and that children must participate in the creation of child-friendly world, MelJol seeks to develop children’s citizenship skills by focussing on child rights and responsibilities, and providing them with opportunities to contribute positively to the environment. All of MelJol’s work is based on The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1990 (CRC).
Muktangan is an innovative model of education located within mainstream Government schools providing quality, child-centred, inclusive, English-medium schooling to thousands of underprivileged children in Mumbai. Their teachers, from the same communities as students, are trained in a unique methodology to become engaging, motivated educators. Muktangan has now grown into the Muktangan Education Resource Centre (MERC) – a collaborative space for students, teachers and communities to work together to help improve the education sector in Mumbai and beyond.
A secular, Mumbai-based non-profit organisation, SNEHA believes that investing in women’s health is essential to building viable urban communities. SNEHA recognises that in order to improve urban health standards, its initiatives must target both care seekers and care providers. It works at the community level to empower women and slum communities to be catalysts of change in their own right, as well as collaborates with existing public health systems and health care providers to create sustainable improvements in urban health.
Founded in 1922, St. Catherine’s Home was Ida Dickenson’s initiative to provide shelter and an environment of love and care to homeless girls, especially unmarried mothers. In December 1927, when she could no more manage the work, the Bishop of Bombay requested the Daughters of the Cross to take over her work. Over nine decades of working with and for the girls, the ultimate goal of St. Catherine’s Home is empowering deprived, abused, underprivileged girls and young women to be confident, qualified, responsible, value based citizens of our country.
In 2006, 17 years after starting the Akanksha Foundation, Shaheen Mistri felt compelled to address the issue of educational inequality at scale. As she thought through the solution, she believed that the answer lay in a people’s movement. In 2007, Shaheen met Wendy Kopp, the Founder of Teach For America, and was struck by the idea of leadership being at the core of the solution. In 2009, Teach For India welcomed their first cohort to the Fellowship. Today, they have 1250 Fellows working relentlessly to change the lives of students in their classrooms and become leaders for change themselves.
Vacha Charitable Trust was founded in 1987 by Sonal Shukla as a library and resource centre for women. In 1995 Vacha began working with students from poor neighbourhoods, and today focuses on the particular needs of teenagers, especially girls. In addition to its strong resource center that is open to all, Vacha produces curricula and audio visuals on women’s issues and girls’ education, trains other NGOs in health and gender awareness, and undertakes research and advocacy to promote girls’ education.

As a Certified CareeReady trainer, 4 hours of your day transforms the career pathways of 100 young adults every year. You will first be trained and certified through an intensive training and placed at a Career Service Centre in one of Mumbai’s low income communities. If you are a graduate with more than a year of experience in any industry and have at least 4 hours a day (preferably in the afternoon), any 5 days a week, come build futures.
